The 100K challenge is running and is coming faster than I thought. Friday is the marketing conference already.

And yay! Some of us actually signed up. By faith and not by sight. It's not like somebody thinks its popular and signed for it. But its the heart for the people out there.

Yay! Good job.

Hospitality is up for this month. I just wanna say that I am gonna do for the whole month. Give generously your good service.

Hello, are you in the 100K??

Or, have you heard about the 100K? Tagline, witty, but a way to strike a conversation with anyone.

Was @ churchwide prayer meeting, the biggest in the history of FCBC, according to Pastor Khong, about 2,500 FCBCians answered the call, committed to pray for the campaign. Out of that, 4 from HSF. It's not about the numbers, though it's somehow everything about it, but I know that God is ultimately concerned about the heart of the people.

In the end, I went, part of history making, I see it. Some of the adult networks had already started their campaign, and yes, testimonies were shared. I was very impressed and amazed at what they shared, in fact, if you were there, you'll be greatly encouraged too. It's not about the church-driven campaign, nor is it about "if you want to attend Ed Silvoso's seminar, you have to be in the 100K" kinda thing.

It really talks about the condition of our own heart too, talking about being a blessing to the people around us, like what Shirley always says, talk is cheap. I'll take it from Nike "Just Do it!" It has to be a way of life, or rather THE way of life. Let's bless!

Difference

Well, I can see that this blog needs revival. So I am going to add a new post today.

I was kinda fascinated by Pastor Khong's preaching on last sunday and he preached about making a difference. Well, he used Noah as an example and he was the ONLY one to be favoured in God's eyes in those times.

And he made an ark to save his family and the animals. Just as God had commanded him to do. So, 1st I want to say that you can make a difference in your family. Even though you are the ONLY christian in the family, the WHOLE family will be blessed, just like how God blessed Noah's family, because he was the ONLY one who was favoured. Not even his wife, his parents, his children were favoured. But the whole family was saved and blessed because of this one man was favoured.

Next, you can make a difference in your future generations. When you are in favour with God, he will mark your family with the covenant that was made with you and Jesus Christ.

In Hebrews 12:2, Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

You have to be daring to stand out in the crowd. Walking with God is the difference between you and the others. God makes the difference, but only if you choose to or not. The choice is yours. Being saved costs us nothing, being a disciple costs us everything.

You also have to be daring to do something for the 1st time. Have you ever remembered doing something for the 1st time? I remember my 1st time blogging was actually at my bro's place, and he thought me to blog. And look at me now, I got 2 blogs now. It's the 1st step that makes the difference. Some people might look to you and laugh because the 1st time does not guarantee success. But failure is still good. It's the 1st time, everyone makes mistakes. But the 1st time spurs you to go for it for a 2nd time. Yeah.

Lastly, you have to determine to look at the rainbow. For those who didn't know, the rainbow is a sign of the covenant made by Noah and God.

Genesis 9:8-17

8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: 9 "I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth."

12 And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."

17 So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth."

However, our new covenant is with Jesus. The cross is what we look to that reminds us of the death and resurrection and our salvation. Thank God for the cross.

As I was sitting there listening to Pastor's message, I found it really familiar. Where have I heard it from? "The Beatitudes: Christian Character & Conduct." I do not know how many have been broken, I can say that I have been, but I'm not there yet. As you can see...there are still ALOT of 'I' in this blog. No, there is nothing wrong with that cause my blog should also reflect my life too.

Yet, I was just doing some reflection at that point of time. Me, when was the last time God break me? When was it? Pain is not the 1st thing that we normally ask for and definitely not a fun thing to go through...

I certainly pray that I will never be like the Pharisee, proud at heart. Start recognising our spiritual poverty, so that the Rule & Reign of God can be establish in our lives.

Luke 18:9-14
9To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 10"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'13"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'14"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. It actually brought me to think of my upcoming race as well, back to the very basic, what do I run for? I seriously pray that I will be focused on what the Lord has set me to go through during this race, not about myself nor my own accomplishment but ALL of God's goodness in my life.

When I have nothing, when I am nothing, that's when I can truly rely of my Heavenly Father.Life is a journey that when God brings challenges into my life, I will have teachability, taking what I learn through the truth of God to bring conviction into my life and builds my character.

I thank God for the life I have, I pray that it will be a life that will speak of Him.

Hey all, I know it's quite long since the last post. So I will try to maintain the liveliness of this blog. I know today's message was quite good. Especially the part where pastor leads us to the declaration of the guilt and other sins thingy. I got a bit of a flu and it's getting better. Thank God.

Also thank God for all the response from Shirley Kwek's girls and from the response I infer that they had fun. And that's great! Praise God!

It's the exam week for many of us. And I would like to pray for all those having exams. And I want to it pastor's style.

I want those having exams to declare, "In Jesus' name, (wait I gotta go get myself a verse haha)(ok I finally got it) I declare that O Lord, save us, O Lord, grant us success. " I pray that those having exams including me will see success because of God's work. Thank God.

Btw, the verse is from Psalms 118:25. Thank God.

Know this is belated but ... better late than never right! ;p

Really wana say a very BIG "Well Done" to the organising committee for the TGIF 'The Crossing'. Especially to Sam and Chris, u deserve a BIG pat on your back. =)
And not forgetting Ben whose self-composed song is really... superb. Very well-written lyrics and tune that touches hearts and made the pre-believers think. Kudos to the band too! =)

Below are some feedback from my ex-students whom i invited and they really enjoyed themselves.

Shumei (Sec 3 gal, SCGS): Yep i really enjoyed myself today. It was really meaningful and fun, and allowed me to think a lot :) i think the organising comm did a fab job too!

(She must have enjoyed herself so much so that she wana have the group photo as a keepsake)

Hey. Its been like 5 days since the last post haha.

I spent my day in school today. Apparently learning nothing. Since the whole day were filled with english and chinese lessons. And we did a compo in both languages. Actually for chinese its letter writing. Then ppl from some anti piracy thing came to our school and interviewed our school and gave speeches. Tmr there will be a mass(TOTAL SIAN). Ouch. I hate masses. But anyway I will be on photography duty tmr. So I won't get numb feet haha.

Btw why I am posting this on the HSF blog? Haha I really dunno. Anyway I will be meeting don and jon and some other ppl for dinner. And we will have fun.

And for TGIF, I got some ppl but I dunno if they are going or not, because they need time to consider. Argh. Haha patience is crucial now. I got 2 names. And I asked them. Actually I asked 5 ppl. 3 turned me down. So I will have to pray for the other 2 ppl. They are Ray and Gabriel.

Hi all, just replying on what my bro said on being a spiritual orphan... I feel that I used to be one because... I had jumped a lot of cell groups and stuff like that. And I didn't think that I recognised my spiritual father and that is what made me write that short sentence which made many ponder.

As far as you know, I am now under Samuel Wong and he is a great spiritual father. And you all know how good he is. And I was under Lawrence and Stanley in the past years and they were awesome too. Just want to let you know, I am no longer a spiritual orphan. Not any more now...

I thank Yong Howe to urge me to post this. Because it made me release all pressure and stuff like that. I thank him also for organising all the activities and make us happy. And Sunday is the games day!

8.30 at NYJC and bring stuff for changing and shower stuff and any thing you need to bring. And most importantly you Bible. If you are going straight to Expo. Which I am. Thank Alvin for organising this time.

Dear all

This is my humble first post. First and foremost, I thank God for the privilege of being the father of baby Jireh. I learned many lessons about our Father God through just taking care of him. At times, when I hugged Jireh, I felt God hugging me too. At other times, when I need to withhold certain things from him or discipline him, I understood God's perspective in a manner that I never could before. When I have to act silly just to make him smile or laugh, I could sense how God sometimes does that too. When he returns with a giggle, my heart delights. I am sure God would too. When I have to clean up his vomit or motion, I saw how God have to clean up the messes that we created. When his cries of 'Papa' melt my heart, I know our cries to our Abba Father melts His.

The above may not connect with many of you cause you do not experience it. My prayer is that you will have a great awareness of our Father's love when your time as parents come.

I named my boy Jireh because I was inspired by Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his own son to God. In turn, God sent his own son, Jesus to die for our sins. God provided a sacrifice for Abraham, he provides Jesus, the sacrificial lamb for us today, on top of other spiritual and material blessings. That is the true meaning of 'Jireh' - 'The Lord Provides'. May you be blessed during this season of remembering Christ's death and resurrection.

Abraham understood that Isaac belonged to God. Charlotte Mason wrote in 1862, "Truly parents are happy people - to have God's children lent to them... I love my children dearly."

I love Jireh dearly. Our Father in Heaven loves us even more...

jason: everyone's been thanking you... haha. and i don't think you are a spiritual orphan. the definition of orphan is one who lost one or both his/her parents who is/are dead physically. so 1: you are not an orphan. coz both mama and papa are around. and 2: neither are you a spiritual orphan, because you have a great spiritual father(samuel), grandfather(yonghowe), great grandfather(Ps RO) .... and the list goes on. on top of that you have great people you can turn to anytime for guidance like Ps Vic who has a genuine relationship with you. jason i think there is no need for you hide those feelings in your heart and focus only on the happy things. we can only overcome and conquer when we face straight up to our fears or worries or unhappiness.

each day we live, do we remember to give thanks and celebrate the friendships that we have? to be honest i once thought about the genuinity about the friendships in the tribe and i do get skeptical sometimes like sometimes friendships are so thin we are almost hi-bye friends. and there is always that sense of uneasiness when you see someone whom you obviously know is in your tribe but you just don't know what to say. but by the sheer genuinity of love and sharing and effort that some of our leaders have shown us, i am convinced that we are more than just a hi-bye tribe. and i really do feel bad each time i have been away for an extended period of time, seemingly as if i havent been putting in my share of effort to make this work, i do feel bad. thinking in my bath that society works in a way that requires human beings to give by the sheer fact that they have been given. for example, we would unconditionally raise our children by the fact that we were raised.. people who have been blessed by scholarships in turn give back to society in terms of setting up scholarships... and i believe that for this system to work, we must all give in simply because someone else has given to bless me. :)

in all simplicity, pls do not hesititate to give an extra smile to that not so familiar face in your tribe. pls do not shut one down simply coz they are different. yin huan and I are sooooooo different, and i used to find him arrogant and so did he. but we just clicked and guess what, i came to know of God thru him. God works in many wonderous ways, you'd never know when that ugly friend of yours is going to change your whole #$%^&life.

just had dinner with the CEO of The Right Angle Group. a simple yet great man. and you know this is really what they call the league of extraordinary gentlemen.. he sorta brought me back to living again. and we always do need people in your life to tell you that you are alive don't you?

let's not stop giving thanks for people around us. people whom God has put right beside you at this very moment for a reason. and celebrate.

daniel: contrary to what jason mentioned on his blog about ribs, he didnt manage to taste any (paiseh sorry haha, although the rest of the guys can testify to the GOODness of my mums home cooked ribs). Its been a good time of catching up with the guys and really doing what we all love-- praising the Lord with our instruments.

chris: i really appreciate this time of cell retreat. It has been a great time with each other and with God. highlight was heart to heart talk 21/3/07 1:40 a.m. learnt alot abt each other! anyway that was what the retreat was intended for in the first place. we recommend this for all cells of hsf.

seth: hello... wow.. this is the first time i'm blogging! haha... well, yes.. these few days over here at daniel's place have been great.. it's gonna be a time i really treasure.. with so little time to spend with my brothers, retreats like this really help us bond la.. sharings, music, xbox, etc...

shi jun: this is our favourite place in the world ... "daniels house" haha actually its our house too la ... anyway this cell retreat has been a real blessing to me and im sure to the other guys ... been having a great 2 days just having fun .. doing the usual stuff.. catching up with the rest.. something that i feel is impt... also discovered some things abt myself and others thanks to yonghowe... all in all a great 2 days

ben: yeah man, all of us had a super time! can tell we are recharged by our queer enthusiasm on this blog for the first time. refreshed, renewed, recharged, yup

Was very touched by Daniel Khong's sermon when he share his hear on this message.
You cannot really say that you love God without loving people. How then can we express that we love God? Loving people is like LCD... Love for Christ Displayed. James wrote that faith without deeds is dead. I believe this is one of the message that i toook home in my heart. How about you?

Wah what's your feeling now after G12? For me I am chao ji SHACK! Darn tired... Sian sian sian sian... Very very sian. Sorry lah I can't think of anything else other than the song Lord Of All... I am trying to get it out of my mind now... Samuel Wong counted... Church sang it for 8 times in 3 days!!!

Tired lah... Can't concentrate. But I am very blessed in this conference. Because I am in some of the situations in the conference. Like when pastor asked spiritual orphans to go up. I am an orphan myself. A physical one some more. My dad left. Very sad times actually. And yah forget it lah. I think I am quite an ok person because I keep all these things in my heart and just get on with the joy.

I actually watched The Pursuit Of Happyness on Thursday with Samuel. And I see that guy(Chris Gardner) really going thru bad days. They are not just bad days, in fact they are bad MONTHS. Seriously. What would you do if you were kicked out of your own house and left with the burden of taking care of your son and your wife left? I seriously would want to kill myself if that happens. I know this has nothing to do with church but there's this part of the movie that makes good sense. "You got a dream, go get it yourself." Actually its related to church.

Friday Pastor(?) Daniel Khong preached about love. In 1st Corinthians 13:1-3 basically says that without love, nothing is possible. What do you think? He is a living testimony himself. Just as he said. God led me back to Psalms 116:6 "The LORD protects the simplehearted;when I was in great need, he saved me. " Why did God save us? Partially because we were in great need. But it was mainly because he loves us. The LORD LOVES US. Do you love him?

And during the night worship today people like Fencui took those cards or boards or paper(whatever you think it is) and really it touched my heart again like the breakout party. Those who went up there were LIVING TESTIMONIES. They experienced setbacks but BOUNCED BACK in God's love. If God didn't love us, he would have not sent Jesus to come down. He loves us. Makes sense? Okay now it's your turn to speak your mind. Please support this blog. Don't make it dead again. Haha it was NOT easy to resurrect the blog. Okay have a good night.

Oh and Yong Howe and co. are planning to make a habit of having fun at the end of the month. We are going to have sports like soccer, basketball, Ultimate Frisbee(thats why its not homogenious) and Tennis(another reason why it is not). So have fun and a good day tmr.

Sat spend at JB with some friends. Details such as mouth watering curry that we had and catching the show "The Pursuit of Happiness". And to top it all, a night KTV session with close friends. Fabulous!

Angels in Disguise

"The sound of success is beyond the SPLAT!" Those are the words Mr Kwok says every morning assembly. To me, I have am going through the splat. Doing things of the impossible is NOT IMPOSSIBLE. It is just beyond the ordinary, which many of us are. Another phrase is from the song "Angel in Disguise".

It says, "

I woke up this morning feeling kind of blue
and i stumbled out of bed and
dragged my feet across the room
Right outside my front door was a rose
and a note that said 'Somebody loves you'

But out on the street it starts to pour
and before i get soaking wet,
A total stranger runs to give me

I woke up this morning
Feeling kind of new.

I was like... WOW. I recall all those there who were out there caring for those in need. There are many Angels in Disguise in my life. One of them is Yong Howe. The other my brother. And they are those who care for you when you are in times of need.

Hey all! Just glad to see that 3 new posts just came rising up in this blog. Haven't seen a post for a long time though. Thank God that there are ppl out there who care about us. And God too.

Today I just felt God reminding me that without him, i was nothing.

John1:2-4, " 2He was with God in the beginning.

3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men."

God also reminded me with the song, 'Amazing'. And its one of the most inspiring songs in my life. Hope to compose something like that.

The part, "I am speechless before you, I am nothing without you" was very influential to me today. Its very contradicting as without God I wouldn't have survived so far. I thank God for my school CA1 results that I passed all subjects. I pray that God will also give you the same blessing that I had. Thank God.

March Reflection

Dear HSF,

Thank you Lay Leng, Winson, Daniel and Lee Lian for taking time during supper and for those of you who came last night, thank you for sharing the time with each other and seeking God together as a Youthnet family. We are certain you were blessed by God’s word and also through the worship.

The word HSF has taken a whole new meaning for me yesterday morning as I did my QT. The Lord has been impressing upon my heart about the importance of togetherness and a sense of belonging. Hence, last week during family time I shared about:

It is not enough to have faith in God but we need to have faith in each other
It is not enough to belong to God but we must belong to each other
It is only when we see each other by the spirit and focus on what Christ has done and can do in our lives that we learn to see beyond our individual weaknesses, personalities and styles
Hence, we must all be consumed by a love for God and a passion for people – than and only than will we focus on a common call in the great commission and not become petty over our differences because we are more concerned about kingdom perspective

Back to my morning devotion as I listened to Ps Benny Ho’s teaching on how we are created, consecrated, called, commanded to serve God and His people – the Lord reminded me of the time when I came from a small church and how it was not easy to have to serve God in so many functional roles like worship, ushering, publications – preparing bulletins and doing traffic marshalling etc …. How now that I am in a big church like FC – Youthnet, I have unconsciously taken many services and things people do for granted! I sought the Lord and asked Him to search my heart and began to appreciate what I have in Youthnet – starting from the spiritual heritage to the physical facilities etc ……started to appreciate what we have in HSF…..

However, I was just so disturbed in my spirit because the Lord reminded me that HSF not only stands for Heart Serving Family but Heart Seeking Family…I said Oh …. Lord indeed but why remind me about seeking at this point or season of Going Deep…..the answer came in the evening…..Than came the evening when Pastor Eugene talked about going deep in family and in loving one another and how he sees God leading us as a Youthnet family from sanctification to unification. I was particularly blessed when Ps. Yearng Cherng shared about the distinctive differences between friends and family.

§ Friends give us a sense of closeness and fun while
§ Family is all about commitment and being faithful even when things don’t feel right or go the way we want
§ Friends exercise mutual rights while family practice
§ Mutual responsibilities

He continued to highlight that friends would go a long way with us but family goes all the way. Friends do not result in spiritual reproduction but family gives birth to children and multiplies.

I like to think that all of you are committed in HSF & Youthnet and not merely here because you feel a sense of closeness to us or each other.

Thus, the reason for this mail is to update all of you what I sense the Lord wants me to tell all of you. He reminded me that some of you are tired and weary from your own daily battles and also some of you are tired of this church thing and ministry and yet we all must decide whom we serve and why we serve???? BUT the BIGGER question is whom we seek and what we are seeking and why we seek???? Whether we really want to seek the things of God – that we must not only be a Heart Serving Family but a Heart Seeking one…. i.e. we must be willing to seek after God’s heart daily – and I believe this season …He wants us to be grateful for our church, our families and what we have and He wants us to have that commitment to God and to the church …. Henceforth, would you be willing to seek God daily in your QT and also began to make a commitment to the service of God in church becos all the bible studies and learning without service will lead to stagnation and no growth …unless you learn to seek God and serve Him, you will not grow … to seek the things of God is to know what you want to be committed to and what you would die for! Some of you are still struggling to seek God in your daily lives…. Stop the voice that says you can’t becos of work or busyness… seek God and seek Him intentionally….

In closing, be committed to each other and be each other’s keeper and spur each other onto good works in Christ Jesus…hold each other accountable and share what God is doing in your spiritual life – if you have nothing to share or you are dry and can only share other things – than perhaps it is time to examine why…..also when you are not able to come for meetings – I hope you will seek out your fellow brothers and sisters and ask them to fill you in so that we are all on board and aligned in what God is doing.

This entry is for all of you.

When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of finishing an Ironman Race. I remember vaguely that it was a teenage goal to try an Ironman after I watched an inspiring Ironman series on NBC about the Finishers in Kona Hawaii. To know more about Kona, Hawaii, you can read Sebastian’s Blog “SELAH” @ http://sebastianteo.blogspot.com/
There, you will find true inspiring stories about men and women and the reason why they race. As I grew older, I moved on from different sports but always knew that an endurance sport was God’s gift to my life. Hence, I hung up my rock climbing shoes in 2004 and went out with my running and cycling shoes. However, swimming was never my cup of tea. I never swam 20 laps of Freestyle non-stop until January 2007. I started swimming breaststroke when I was young and started re-learning Freestyle in 2006. That’s the reason why I am slow to begin my triathlon journey. Here’s a brief history:

OSIM 2004 – First Tri Experience (Sprint Distance)
OSIM 2005 - ------ Registered but did not participate due to ministry commitment
OSIM 2006 – First Short-course (Olympic Distance)
Port Dickson – Second Short-course (Olympic Distance)
East Coast Park – NUS Long Distance Tri
Ironman Langkawi – First Long Course

So how does it feel now that you have completed the IM?

I’M thankful! I really can’t say that there was a highlight in the whole experience because everything was a highlight! The pre-race, during and post-race emotions and thoughts were all wonderful journal entries and there are so many lessons to learn and draw from the entire Ironman journey. I guess that’s why people do it because to do an Ironman is something more than yourself – it is not the race but the experiences your draw from the journey through each leg of the course.

Was there a scariest moment during the race?

Well, it is not the heat [34 -34 Degrees Celsius] but rather coming down the hills after you have laboriously climbed it – yes, coming down at 65 -70 km / h with the kids by the side of the road trying to pick water bottles and vehicles on the other side climbing slowly up the hill. To me, I felt a sense that I had no control and could only pray as I went swooping down in my aero-dynamic position.

Many people were concerned that you had some problems, especially Shirley who has been waiting anxiously for you. Was there a point you thought you would not finish?

Oh …. I guess Shirley was worried and that’s normal now …. Haha because she will see Sebas finish followed by Jacyln and I will be the last of the 3 in that order. I wasn’t worried that I couldn’t finish the race because I could hear the words of encouragement by many of my friends and family back in Singapore saying, Swim with Courage, Ride with Resilience, Run with Endurance, Always thankful, always victorious, always a blessing, Ironman don’t go half-way, Ironman go all the way BUT there was a moment I was concerned.

That moment happened after climbing a hill along the bike course. We had to climb 5 hills in total. After climbing 4th hill with about 100km to go on my bike leg, my derailer shifters started to bother me. The cable or screw had come lose and the tension affected my paddling. The chain kept skipping / jumping and couldn’t stay in my chain ring. I tried several times to shift my gears hoping that the chain would stay in one position instead of skipping but to no avail. Hence, I got off my saddle at least 3 times and tried to rectify the problem but it still didn’t work. This saw my timing & rhythm slip. I had planned to cycle at an average speed of 27 – 28km/h so that I could finish my bike leg between 6hrs 30min to 6 hrs 15min. By about 3.30pm under the scorching heat with about 40km remaining, I started telling God that I need a miracle for my marathon leg. I recalled telling God that I wanted to finish strong and I prayed that I will not hit the wall or feel any cramp during the run. God was silent as I rushed through the countryside and villagers along a series of flat road into KUAH township. Later at about 4pm, I spoke to God again and asked Him if He has heard my cry??? As I passed the runners and entered KUAH, the Holy Spirit whispered and reminded me that everything is gonna be alright in Christ. That gave me a boost and I pressed on to the transition area. I met Shirley & Huimei along the roadside but couldn’t bring a smile as I was really exhausted and frustrated with my bike. I went into transition and soon started my run.

So how did you feel as you started running?

I made the transition and ran passed Shirley & Huimei and tried to smile and give them a nod of my head and all that was on my mind was finishing well and strong.

Some people said you were looking strong in the run, what kept you going??

Well, when you run from evening to twilight and into the night – it is an awesome and yet tiring experience. What kept me going was self-talk, talking to God, worshiping and thinking about you guys and gals back home [now that’s the mental & spiritual part]. I also had to discipline my body and now fully understand what Paul meant when he said he had to buffet / discipline his body for the work of Christ. I basically practiced what I did on the bike – x1 took salt tablet every 50 mins / x1 PowerGel every hourly and I drink pretty much after every 10 -15mins on the bike or run. During the run, I did not take my salt tablets from the special needs area because I wanted to keep my running rhythm going but the drinks and sponging at the Aid Station were very important especially for the purpose of regulating heat from the evening sun [that’s the physical and physiological part]. More importantly, your friends around make a lot of difference. For instance, a friend of mine ran passed me and said, “Hang in there Yong Howe”. That made a difference when you start seeing others walking and you just tell yourself you got to keep at it and so the marathon leg saw many ‘iron sharpen iron’ moments as your friends passed you by…. Thanks Desmond!

What are some images or pictures you will never forget???

That’s a good question! There are many I must say. For example, when I tried to ‘Hi Five’ the guy with the prosthetic leg Jeffrey Glasbrenner who lost his leg as a child in a farming accident and when I passed the Japanese Para Olympian, Harumi Yanagawa and his friend, I would thumbs up and his buddy would smile! These moments are special because you realize that everyone has got some kind of weakness or disabilities and sometimes the real disabilities and handicap is not physical but mental. Through these guys, I am reminded that our greatest weakness and disabilities is a weak mind and heart that says I can’t or I will not but when we can say like Paul, That we be lacking not in zeal but be zealous for God – WOW! I realize that at that moment when we surrender our physical or mental weaknesses and press on - we can finish any race, accomplish any dreams just as these two brave men proved they did. On a more personal note, 2 images will remain in me for a long time to come and you will probably hear me testify over and over again. Here we go:

1. The marathon leg consists of 4 loops with the last all the way to the FINISH. After I did my first loop and collected my first red band, I felt a little weak and sleepy even though my legs were still able. As I took the red band, I told God I was gonna run non-stop and finish the loop for Shirley & our baby – that spur me on. When I finished the second and took the green band, I told God that I wanna run for my family and spiritual family Youthnet and my tribe and my people and every step of the way was either a prayer or a song for you guys….one particular song spurred me during my 3rd lap. It was the song, “I will run to You” not by might, not by power but by the spirit of God…yes I will run the race..till I see your face…Lord let me live in the glory of your grace…..Finally when I collected my last band and interestingly it was WHITE in colour, I told God the last one is for you JESUS, FATHER and Holy Spirit. I remember I would say I love you Jesus along the way, I love you Holy Spirit along the way….I said to God that I wanted to finish my Christian Race strong and well, I want to be more like Jesus…asking God to purify my heart … and as I ran into the mountains ….the Lord spoke to me as He has always done so through His word…. He said Yong Howe, remember Ps. 121 ….remember what you shared with the rest during the eve of your race…. Remember you said that every verse in this Psalms will come alive…. Indeed Ps. 121 came alive as I look to the Hills where does my help come from – the Maker of Heaven and Earth ---- I ran in awe as I looked at the mountains and looked at the moon and the stars…..Up till that moment, God has indeed watched over me in scorching sun till night where the moon was rising and in my coming and going – He who watches over me neither slumbers …. He will not let my foot slip!!! BUT I was kinda concern and caught up with looking at my watch and counting down in my head --- erghhh what time will I finish ….can I finish in my new goal of 15 hours since I had reset my goal from 14 to 15 hours after the bike leg ….. YET somewhere with just 10km more to go, the Lord whispered and said Yong Howe, stop looking at your watch! Look at the stars, enjoy worshiping me and enjoy this journey ---You will finish this race in my time!!! At that moment, songs like How Great is our God and In His Time were singing in my heart … I can’t really describe to you but I smiled and enjoyed the entire run and so the image I will not forget is the stars over the mountains and God whispering to my heart assuring and teaching me trust in Him.
2. The second one has to be my Dada! Yes Shirley at the finish about 30 metres more to the podium and running with her up to the stage and hugging and posing for a finishing shot. I love the way she loves me and seeing her at the end was special because she always knew she would be there despite her pregnancy and she always had such faith and belief more than me at times. Thank you SHIRLEY!

Now that you have completed the Ironman. How would you summarize what an Ironman Race or journey is all about???

Well, anyone can do an ironman because I believe the IM is about finishing. Yes an ironman is about finishing your dreams, your purposes and your goals in life and anyone with the ZEAL, PASSION can FINISH well and strong. However, we must go through the training - that’s pre-race preparation and we must go through the discipline – that’s race discipline and sticking to your plan or strategy and not weaver even when things don’t go your way.

Final Question, what’s next?

I don’t know now with so many things to catch up @ work and ministry and also with baby coming but I do know that this will not be my last IM!

Wanna share something that i read this morning on my way to work.

From James 1, it says that when u ask for wisdom do not doubt. As many of you know, i have just changed to a new job. And with that, of course there are new challeges and certain amt of difficulties. So pride step in and i tried to do it with my own strength. Naturally, i failed.

God is merciful and good though. He reminded me today that His steadfast love never ceases. And lead me to James 1 where it says ask for wisdom. But it also says when u ask, do not doubt. For he who doubts is like a double-minded man, unstable and he will not receive from the Lord.

So children of God. Have u been taking things on your own strength? I encourage you to start each day committing everything to Him. And see how He will guide and bless you.

Hey all! Its been like one week since the previous post though... But I want the others to blog more often. Don't make it dead again pls. I think I have run out of ideas for the time being. A lot of things going on this week. its exam week for the students, back to work for the adults.

Hey! Yea it was Valentine's day yesterday. And I went out with... don't be surprised lah... Because it is not a girl or a date. Haha

Yesterday was my brother Jian Feng's birthday if you didn't know. Yin Huan, Jie Wei and I planned a surprise for him after Jie Wei had dinner with him. Heehee. Here comes the great part. We actually deceived the birthday boy lor... He didn't even suspect a thing. Unbelievable.

We(Yin Huan, Sunny, Hui Mei, Daniel, Lilian and I) were at Marina Square at about 9.30pm. And we went to the grass patch there which faced the Esplanade. We like waited there for quite a long time until about 9.45pm to 10pm. We were waiting for Jie Wei's signal. Haha. She good actor lor... Can go Mediacorp liao.

Then Jie Wei brought my bro to the grass patch but he didn't even notice until like 30 seconds later. Haha it was hilarious. Ya and all the things went along well. We had the cake and had a lot of fun.

And then Joseph(Denise's to be husband) smsed in. He typed something like, "Sorry bro, cant go for the surprise party." This one even better. My bro called him to act like he didn't know the thing. And Joseph's reaction was like... Oh shoot... Oh crap... Hahaha Very funny.

Haha the night was filled with laughter and joy. Thank the others for coming. Lol btw I organised the surprise. So thank God it turned out well. Haha

The new year has begun. It must have been an exciting time facing new workload, new phase of life, new friends, new level of study stress, new gf...oops.... ok i shall stop here.
Yes, in the mist of it all, i am reminded as i read this book drawing near. Something that i learn and wanna share is that in the mist of all these, sometimes, we tend to miss God in this whole picture. Amist all the changes and all. And only when things go wrong or we need divine help/intevention do we come to the God whom we profess. Have we come to seek His blessings more than the Blesser? Hahaha... Seems that Tim and Don have gone to Rome and Korea respectively with their families... And the Magic Of Love is coming soon... Have you all gotten your names to bring on Fri,Sat or Sun???

Well, I have liao. I will be bringing a young couple from Shanghai. Actually they are my "relatives" there lah. Remeber, I went to Shanghai in June wad... So they are coming and i am gonna invite them to the Magic Of Love this time.

By the way, I just came home from a fun outing with Sam Wong, Lucas, Sam Tan, Jordon and Ryan. We went to Marina square for dinner and actually supper lah... Actually we wanted to go either Bowling(again?) or Kbox, but in the end the bowling alley was full and Kbox was just too expensive for some of us. And for Lucas and Sam Tan, singing is just not their forte.

I must admit i am never incline to basketball. In fact, i dun think i am good in sports anyway. But sunday's short time with you guys have been great! I am learning the game and to me, i just wanna spend time just having fun with you guys. Thanks Jason for organising all this. Really appreciate it! Looking forward to the next game.

Someone once said, 'When you go through changes, you need to take care of 3 Ss otherwise you become an Ass' The 3 s are You need to allow God to redefine your Success, Significance and Security. This someone shared with another somebody who asked this someone how is it that Shirley & this someone seemed to cope with change rather well all these years??? This someone said that the year they left YOUTH to join their mentors was a year that God dealt with their defination of ministry and they learnt to serve God and people without any concern of church structures, church appointments or even without the concern of changes and uncertainty. How about now? That somebody asked?? Well, the someone said, "We both love God and love our people.....sure it hasn't been a bed of roses but you can either look at rose bushes and focus on the thorns or look up to heaven and be grateful that rose bushes have beautiful roses" That somebody then asked ...so are your people roses ....hahaha...

Another one said, 'Go slow. People are a lot like horses. They don't like to be startled or surprised. They don't like change. It causes deviant behavior.' That's what we are gonna do ..... go slow. Shirley & I have been praying that while change is upon us.... we sensed that many of you have also responded differently ..... some have not thought much about our move with Ps. RL while others have discussed or shared over MSN / Blogs / Emails / SMS ....

This coming Wednesday (15 Nov 2006) .... let us all come with hearts united to welcome and embrace our brothers and sisters who are joining us .... let's listen to their journey and response spontaneously..... Forgive me if I have 'rushed' some of you WE will not rush, we will not be quick to comment but let us come ready and be patient to listen.

HSF will be available to meet anyone of you anytime...please let us know ..... We would like to make your our priority .... Let us know okiez.
Till then, I pray that what Jian Jian shared be true....that this could only bring us closer and we must be joyful and purposeful as we are supposed to be ambassordors for CHRIST, inviting strangers and others to church .....or conversely....this may test existing relationships .... the key is back to our security and significance and who we really are in God and what we want to do with Christ......so let us put down our fears and uncertainties or personal negative emotions and stand up and love each other...considering others before self ...so that the world can see we are His disciples

The prize of status quo is sometimes not bad but for good reasons. It is not usually just a matter of personal or communal preferences but certain values and understandings after a group of people have established over a season..... however some times we feel the inertia and avoid change ...we resist change also becos we may feel that we are compromising our loyalties if we participate in the change. I personally believe that people do not resist change, per se but when we do, it is because we are coping with a loss and hence resist the loss ...... I pray that there come a tipping point in the process of change for us all....... A point at which so much change has already been accomplished that it is futile to resist the change and pointless question but ONLY surrender .....

Remember adaptive change and be harmful but authentic change with God as our light and guide is often for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes and plans!

For those of you who need more time, take your time to feel and come to terms but not for long because people give excuses not to feel because they are afraid to face the changes, the challenges, the realities, the real circumstances.... people who choose not to feel can be in denial of something and hence ...avoiding the issue is normal .... perhaps understanding the circle of change will be helpful (see below)

I hope all of us will learn to go through D.A.B. First ...denial sets in for a while...then...acceptance must come and soon we must start believing in something or someone BIGGER than ourselves once again ...learning to go through this process helps

Until we meet again, let's remember that God has called us to be change-agents where ever you are ...so besides sharing and discussing change on the BLOG .... ask yourself...when was the last time you made a differences or effect positive change in your environment, in other's.... let us not stop being "Salt & Light"

I do ask myself why i seem to go through so much change while my friends from other networks seem to have such stability in their nets, but even as i seek GOD as to the why, i realise its not that they're better off because they have stable nets nor i am worse off for having so much change. Rather, i belive that the LORD prepares different people for different things and even as we submit to the leadership and guidance of the church and our leaders, we will grow more mature and stronger in each and every way! and to answer jie's question the end of year camp is for HoweShirley net not including PS Ro and Lai Fun's Net yup!

Someone once said that, "Change is taking one step foward, whilst taking two steps backward."
That same person also wondered, "Every time we were beginning to form our identity as a network, we had to be reorganized. Are we meeting a new situation by reorganizing, and what a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while actually producing confusion and demoralization.

People are naturally resistant to Change

1. Fear of the Unknown - People are worried because that they cannot adopt new "cultures" of the new network after the merger.
2. Breaking Routine - People are creatures of habit.
3. Incongruent Systems - Would the new network have a different system set that needs adjusting to.
4. Incongruent Team Dynamics - Perhaps the single most important factor. Would the new G12 group (VK/HSF) after have different team dynamics, agenda and chemistry? Does our network and Ps Roland/Lai Fun's network have similar outlook and objectives?

Positive Effects of Change

However, Change when executed effectively by leaders and understood by the people involved, can bring new meaning and a better awareness of the situation. Change is ubiquitious. Change is nessesary. Change is normal. Can this transitional stage toward the change be successful? Definately!

Communication: The highest and most effective way for reducing the negative impacts that change brings about. And also for sharing your reactions (positive or negative) with regard to this change. By writing your comments on blogs, I know that Jie Wei and Glenise are excited over the change, with the new people they can know and meet. On the other hand, Daniel seems ambivalent, asking sensible questions and thinking.
By communicating and making your thoughts known, it provides a better platform to understand and support one another in coping with this change. Moreover, communication clarifies issues that you are unsure about.

Communicate your feelings over this change: uncertainty, worries, anxiety, excitement, delight, joy!

Jianfeng, what an impactful first post. I don't think there are any resemblance at all other than the small eyes or maybe the long hair. Try to sound more excited abt those comments la, afterall people is Singapore idol finalist lehh hurhur.

This afternoon they just broke the news to the tribe that we will be moving to the network of Ps Roland and Lai Fun with effect from Jan'07. Guess there are alot of things to look forward to with regards to this shift. Bigger tribe, new people, the more the merrier? Plus i always thought Ps Roland to be a very dynamic pastor since weekend encounter with him. Then again, all pastors are dynamic in their own rights. i mean, take a look at Ps yonghowe and victor!! :)) I'm pretty much excited about this shift. How about you? Thoughts, anyone?

Hey, anyway the homec is actually no big deal.... As it really cannot be helped.

Yesterday I watched the Singapore slingers played the Cairns Taipans in the indoor stadium with Yong Howe, Yin Huan, Jon,Don, Ben and Melvin and his group of 2 boys there.

It was an exciting match as it was really close. The score was SG 98-102 Taipans. Which Singapore lost.

Mike Helms did not really played well, getting a 19 points in the end.
I think no 14 and 35 played well. 35 is Martin Chandler but I wonder who 14 was.

It was actually a comedy as there was an Indian guy called Mr Singh distracting the Cairns Taipans with his loud bang on some balloon sticks and it was really really funny!

To Jason, sorry to hear about your situation, from what I gather the teacher has made a mistake. Regardless, I read somewhere that 95% of the time when we take offense the person didn't intend it. So my suggestion is just try to talk to the teacher about it, probably with others in the same boat, and at the same time remember to let go and talk to the rest about it (people like Daniel and Sam W). Better than keeping things inside you.

To the rest: Just wanna wish you happy holidays (for the students who finished exams), all the best for those taking Os/As, and for all others, God bless in every area.

Hiyah... Really have no mood now.... So sian....

I feel like killing my Home Econ teacher!!! She really sucks. really really sucks.

Looking at my report card and i see 2 fails and 1 of them is obviously homec and the other lit! I am not so angry at lit as i got 49 marks.... Now the thing is the homec! Really feel like dying!

Btw, homec is calculated in my 1st half of year......Because i am from the 1st batch.
And the bad thing about the 1st batch is that the teacher is very biased to other classes in the 2nd batch.

Anyway, most of you wont get a mark so low like mine.... and you can guess if you want because you will never guess it... Its 33 marks.... I mean out of 100, not 50

Stupid practical make the whole 1st batch die... I still remebered what actually happened...

It was a bright and sunny morning with magnolia clouds laid stagnant in the clear and blue sky... Then the announcement was made."All Sec 2s will go for the health checkup today at 11am" Then 11 came as fast as folding paper. Really fast. But the checkup was slow. Then it finished at 12.30 whereas our homec period was at 12.

The class made its way to the homec room as the 2nd batch went to the D&T room. Then the teacher was scolding why we were late and we missed OUR PRACTICAL EXAM! Literally missed. No more extra tries in this case.

Thats how bad our homec teacher was...... Super irresponsible...

BTW, my overall average is 58.3 and i am 7th in class... including the 2nd batch of homec ppl.

Hi all,

Reflecting on what Tim was sharing about repetitive prayer. Does God get tired of us praying the same stuff again and again? Why pray when God already knows?

Just to share a book that i was reading about Prayer by this author Philip Yancey. It talks about why pray? For one thing, Jesus did as well. Imagine the Son of God did. Sometimes we come before God with all sorts of requests.. like i wanna pray that i pass my IPPT (which is today), job offers may come, stuff like that. The answers to our prayer may varied, but God is good. Remember that God has plans to prosper us and not to harm us. Above all these, prayer brings us closer to God. It helps us know more about Him. And it helps us to see things, from His perspective. Hmm.... i encourage all of you to share what prayer is to you... what prayer means to you. Something simple and short will do. :)

ok hi all tim here. had a great time of worship with sam, jason and 2 other friends yesterday though the music wasnt that fantastic. If you are all interested in the SUPER pro guitarists that jason has mentioned, let me introduce you to them. =drum rolls!= one of them is jianxin, my pri sch fren, an fcbc member, while the other is chiheng, my pri sch best buddy. It was great to have jason and sam join our jamming sessions, wished we could do it more within the network, which seems increasingly impossible since everyone is busy with exams and all. oh yeah, talking about exams, let us pray for those who are taking major exams come end of the year such as As and Os and those receiving results too. And of course, we dun wanna forget those who are working and those having PW (sianz). Exams are such a hot topic eh, even much of our prayers are so exam oriented. "Lord, help me do well in my exams,...." sounds familiar?? haha. what a stress killer haha.
Have u ever wondered if God gets bored with the same repetitive prayer? After all God is also our Friend, and as friends it gets kinda monotonous to focus our ramblings on the same topic all over again. I'll end here with this thought for you =)

Haha really had a great time jamming today! Really reminds me of my happy days in Mangis Road(My Former Home)! I just remembered how i fiddled with my drum set and how fun it was actually to play beats that were ridiculous and out of this world! Asking for the MOON!

Anyway, Tim and Sam were there, and there were 2 more guys playing guitars. Sam and I was SINGING! and tim was playing the drums(I really feel like learning it lor...) . 1 of the guitarists was SUPER pro! Really really good!

This "band" was really making me feel as if it were the good old days.... With my Bros and their band playing music. I think it was mainly X Japan as they were singing Japanese songs.

I know today is Hari Rayah and so its a public holiday. Tim is bringing me and Sam to jam with his friends too. So I pray that there will be no problem in anything.
